Responsible to: National Citizen Service Project Manager
Job Purpose: To assist in leading an NCS group through their summer programme which takes place from 23rd July to 22nd August 2012. To assist the delivery of a programme of events and activities to meet the aims of the project.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
1 To assist with leading an NCS group through their summer programme.
2 Deputise for the Team Leader as required.
3 To assist with the delivery of a programme of events and activities to meet the aims of the project.
4 To work flexibly across all phases of the project, residentials and occasional evenings
5 Responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of participants throughout their summer project.
6 Deliver activities in a variety of settings to provide young people with a positive experience on the NCS programme.
7 To work with partners and providers in the delivery of the project.
8 Ensure that young people's log books are completed and evidence gathered to support accreditation.
9 To engage with NCS participants in a range of settings and ways of working to meet their individual needs, to enable a successful participation in NCS by identifying barriers to participation, and to agree action plans to implement agreed outcomes.
10 To help keep and maintain records as necessary in line with project audit requirements.
11 Respond accordingly to young people's identified needs with youth work values.
12 To adhere to the College Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Policies.
13 To comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 i.e. it is the responsibility of individual staff members to protect data and to take all reasonable steps to ensure all data is kept securely.
Person Specification:Attainments Academic:
Educated to GCSE standardAttainments Occupational:
Relevant experience in working with young people in a variety of settings.
Experienced in working with young people in residential settings.
Ability to apply good Safeguarding practice in residential and non-residential settings.
Hold a valid recognised First Aid certificate
Experience of inter-agency work
Special Aptitudes/Skills:
An ability to engage with young people, some of whom may have learning, emotional or behavioural difficulties.
Independent working skills.
Good team working skills
Commitment to and awareness of equal opportunities.Personal Qualities:

1 This is a fixed term post for 5 weeks. You will need to be available to work on summer programme from 23rd July to 22nd August 2012 plus another 2 days (dates to be confirmed).
2 The actual salary for this post is £2,331 based on the full time rate of £22,100 per annum.

4 There are 4 mandatory training which units must be undertaken. The training sessions are Safeguarding Children, Health and Safety, Disability Discrimination Act and Equal Opportunities.
