Leyhill is a training prison and offenders are not taken directly from court. It holds 508 adult sentences males aged 25+. It is an open (category D) prison with many of the prisoners coming to the end of life sentences. The average length of stay (excluding lifers) is 3 to 12 weeks.
20% of prisoners require drug rehabilitation treatment, 14% ESOL and 60% basic skills.
A wide range of educational / training courses are available including key skills, basic skills, IT, ICT Enterprise, Customer Service, Health and Safety, Food hygiene, preparation for self employment and Catering.
