Accommodation
Information for International Students
As an international student you will probably need to find accommodation for the duration of your studies before you leave your home country. Homestay accommodation is most people's choice as it combines quality, friendliness and value for money and offers you a comfortable entry into life in Britain. It is particularly popular with first year students, especially those under 18 and those making their first visit to the UK.
Students choosing to live in Homestay are provided with their own bedroom and expected to be treated as a member of the family. The College's Accommodation & Welfare Officer carefully selects families to fit in with your personal needs using the information provided on the application form. We aim not to place more than one student of one nationality in the same family but unfortunately this cannot be guaranteed.
You can expect a comfortable single bedroom, breakfast and evening meals during the week, plus additional lunches on Saturday and Sunday. Staying in a British home is a great way to get to know the people, language and culture. All Homestay host families are assessed by the Accommodation & Welfare Officer prior to placing students, are CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked and monitored by annual visits. The Accommodation & Welfare Officer keeps in regular contact with the Homestay host families and both host family and student are given an emergency phone number for any problems which may arise outside normal College hours.
In order to place you with a Homestay host family you will have to complete the application form and pay a one-off arrangement fee of £100. Each term's accommodation fees (£110 - £120 per week) should be paid to the College against an invoice sent to your parents and the College then pay your Homestay host family weekly.
Further information about Homestay can be found in 'Guidelines for Students in Homestay' and the 'Homestay Accommodation' leaflet available to download.
You may fill in the Homestay Accommodation Application form online.
Unfortunately Strode College do not have any halls of residence nor can we place you in private rented accommodation. We can however provide you with contact details for local letting agents, websites and short-term guesthouse accommodation.
