Art and Design HND
Purpose
This course is for students who wish to progress their creative crafts expertise beyond Level 3 or Advanced level.
Course content
The course will focus on the following areas: Textiles, Fashion, Jewellery and Ceramics.
It will also develop the skills needed to run a creative business as well as developing personal professional practice in art and design. You will study a broad range of topics related to creative crafts including:
- Design Exploration in Textiles
- Garment Manufacture
- Ceramic Design
- Jewellery
- Accessories and Body Adornment
- Photography
You will attend college for two days a week and ideally work in a creative arts discipline, paid or voluntary (eg producing your own work).
Assessment
You will be assessed by a variety of methods including:
- coursework,
- reports,
- case studies,
- essay,
- observations,
- critiques,
- presentations,
- practical artefact,
- portfolio pieces.
Entry requirements
Students must have a Level 3 qualification in a relevant art related discipline, and five GCSEs A*-C. You will also need to attend a personal interview and review of your portfolio.
Progression to
After completion of the course successful students may wish to progress onto a Level 6 course of study.
