Student Sport Facilities

21st Century Sports Facilities

Whatever your level, we have outstanding sports facilities for you! Since 1999, we have invested £5 million to improve the sports facilities at Strode College. In conjunction with the Football Foundation, the multi-purpose all-weather pitch was completed in February 2008. The College has a multi purpose sports hall incorporating an indoor climbing wall and a recently refurbished, state-of-the-art fitness suite, offering a good balance of cardio-vascular and resistance training equipment.

A range of sporting activities are available to students including athletics, football, netball and hockey, as well as a range of more unusual opportunities such as volleyball and climbing. The College regularly competes in the Somerset Colleges and British Sport in Colleges tournaments and leagues which take place on Wednesday afternoons, some weekends and occasional evenings.

All Weather Pitch

The fully floodlit All-Weather Pitch is an exciting new development which has been jointly funded by Strode College, Crispin School and the Football Foundation, so the main focus of use will be for the development of football for males and females at all levels of ability. The surface is made of Generation 3 plastic grass with a rubber crumb infill, which gives a texture and feel of real turf (unlike the old sand-filled astro-turf pitches, where friction burns were often evident). Our All-Weather Pitch has excellent drainage, so no more threat of cancelled matches due to water-logged pitches!

The All Weather Pitch is shared between Strode and Crispin School students during the day and is open to the local community for hire during evenings, weekends and holidays.

Sports Centre and Activ8 Fitness Suite

Strode College offers a wide variety of sporting and recreational activities for all full and part-time students. In addition the College has access to shared playing fields for all major team sports, a hard court area and indoor swimming pool.

A range of sporting activities are available to full-time students as enrichment options, including conventional sports such as athletics, football, netball and hockey, as well as a range of more unusual opportunities such as fencing, volleyball and climbing. The College regularly competes in the Somerset Colleges and British Sport in Colleges tournaments and leagues which take place on Wednesday afternoons, some weekends and occasional evenings.

Sports Academies

We have had a terrific response to the new sports academies.

You can choose from the following sports: Cricket, Football, Golf, Netball, Rugby, Trampolining or Hockey.

The academies are all affiliated to the British Colleges Sports Association and students will have the opportunity to play competitive fixtures against other college academies throughout the year on Wednesday afternoons and occasional weekends.
