Some 521 parking places currently serve the College site. This total includes 23 disabled spaces. The car parking is spread between five car parks: the main car park houses 478 spaces, M Block 16 spaces, the Theatre 8 spaces, E Block 15 spaces and B Block 2 spaces.
The operation of the car parks is complex. The College directly controls only 3 car park areas: B Block, M Block and E Block and therefore only 33 spaces of the 521 available.
Parking in the Strode-controlled car parks includes 13 spaces specifically allocated to disabled parking. Parking is controlled by barrier and a key card system. In general, these car park spaces are issued to those who are able to demonstrate a need. Applications for a key card are considered if the students, staff or visitors have a disability, have travelled from a long distance to visit the college or another suitable reason.
The Theatre parking area has 4 of the 8 spaces dedicated to disabled parking but has open access. Access can be restricted as the spaces open directly into the service road used by transport vehicles and delivery vehicles throughout the day for the College, the Theatre and Crispin School.
Users of Strode Theatre, Strode College and Crispin School share the main car park, 478 spaces. Shared use of this car park means that the college is not able to restrict parking. Given this is the largest car parking area this presents considerable pressures on car parking availability.
The College encourages car sharing amongst students through Student Association campaigns, bulletins and the work of the Student Support Worker. The College also promotes the Somerset County Council Car Share scheme which operates across the county via its website.
The College encourages car sharing amongst staff which is critical given 560 staff are based at Strode campus; this figure alone exceeds the total number of car parking spaces available on site and does not include the Crispin School staff or Theatre visitors.
