Strode Aspire Programme
Strode Aspire is a specially designed programme to give our A Level students opportunities to develop the skills and knowledge that will help them to achieve their ambitions.
You will want to know about Strode Aspire if you:
- aspire to study at top universities;
- are interested in science, literature, current affairs and economics;
- enjoy thinking and talking about important issues/ideas;
- are ambitious to secure a job with purpose and impact.
What does Strode Aspire offer?
Oxford University visit
All students get support in making their university applications. We have an enviable success rate, including entry to the top Russell Group universities, such as Cambridge and Oxford.
Those applying to the best universities, particularly those in the Russell Group, receive tailored support through Strode Aspire, with additional sessions available to students applying to Oxford and Cambridge.
Our university preparation programme includes:
- open day visits to top universities,
- help to build your profile,
- individual tutorials,
- personal statement preparation,
- interview techniques.
Aspire students with MP Tessa Munt
Strode Aspire members are invited to attend inspirational talks from figures of national importance, members of the local business community and Strode alumni. Each event is followed by a seminar where members can discuss the subject and issues raised. Recent speakers include a philosopher, Tessa Munt, a senior Glastonbury Festival organiser, and an inventor and record breaking balloon pilot.
The reading programme has been developed to give awareness and insight into ideas and events that have shaped our thinking. Members meet each month to discuss titles, share their understanding and swap ideas for further reading.
The Debating Society is open to all Strode students, but Strode Aspire members are expected to take a lead in shaping the programme and the events.
How do I join?
We particularly welcome applications from students with mostly A* and A grades at GCSE. Other students can apply and will be admitted depending on the quality of their application and passing an aptitude test.
Strode Aspire members should be committed to achieving their personal best and be willing to undertake a wide range of activities designed to help them perform at the highest level.
Is there a cost?
Strode Aspire is free but there are costs associated with some trips and visits. If you have difficulty in meeting these costs, financial help may be available. Students should not see cost as a barrier to joining.
Can I take part in other enrichment activities?
We want you to take part in a range of activities at college. For this reason we try to ensure that Strode Aspire sessions do not clash with other Wednesday afternoon enrichment activities.
For some events you will need to stay at college after 4.30pm; if you are not able to arrange after hours transport please let us know. Students should not see transport as a barrier to joining.
