Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Hairdressing

This is an excellent starting point for students who have the motivation and dedication to become a hairdresser, but who may not have achieved their GCSE's, or who have been home tutored or find academic work challenging.

National Vocational Qualifications are based on real work activities; you will be assisting our senior students in the college hair salons on a regular basis, so a high standard of personal appearance and salon behaviour is very important.

Alongside your hairdressing qualification you will improve your English, Maths and IT skills and complete qualifications in Team Work and Social Development.

During the one year course you will have a week's work experience in a local salon, attend a trip to The Clothes Show and take part in our Hair Competition.

There are progression routes on to either apprenticeship in a salon with NVQ Level 2 or a VRQ Level 2 full time course.

This is a perfect way to begin to build your career in the hairdressing industry.

Level 2 VRQ/NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing

The level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing will help you to gain specific knowledge, understanding and a comprehensive range of skills and practical experience to use within the professional hairdressing environment. All the training is carried out in a modern, commercial and pleasant salon working environment where students are able to use current and leading products such as "Wella" colour, perming and styling products and in addition "Fudge" finishing and styling products.

Additional activities and trips include Salon International Trade Show, The Clothes Show as well as visits by speakers linked to the industry and industry demonstration events.

There is also an annual hairdressing competition that is eligible to all students and is an exciting and challenging way for hairdressing skills and creativity to be showcased. This event is attended and judged by renowned and respected senior stylists and managers from the local area.

This qualification will allow you to progress on to Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing.

Level 3 VRQ/NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing

The Level 3 VRQ Diploma in Hairdressing is aimed at newly qualified hairdressers or those qualified and looking to advance their skills to meet the developing needs of the industry.

Training is carried out in a modern, commercial and pleasant salon environment where students are able to use leading products for colouring, finishing and styling from both "Wella" and "Fudge".

The course will provide practical and underpinning knowledge in advanced cutting, colouring, colour correction and creative setting and dressing hair. All units are assessed and graded through observation and assignments.

Strode College Annual Hairdressing Competition is an exciting and challenging part of the level 3 qualification, giving students the opportunity to showcase their creativity and hairdressing skills to the highest level. This event is judged by professional and renowned senior stylists or managers from the local area.

Exhibitions and educational trips include Salon International as well as visits by guest speakers and industry demonstration events.
