What will you do on the course?
This one year course is designed to prepare you with the skills, knowledge and personal attributes required to be successful in the Public Services or the general workplace.
You can progress to higher level courses within the college or look for direct entry into one of the public sectors such as: The Armed Forces; Prison Services; Customs and Excise; Ambulance; Security Services; Paramedics; Fire Service; Rescue Services; Countryside Rangers; Police and Civil Service.
To achieve the Level 2 Diploma, students must successfully complete six units:
- Public Service Skills;
- Employment in the Uniformed Public Services;
- Improving Health and Fitness for Entry into the Uniformed Public Services;
- Citizenship;
- Land Navigation by Map and Compass;
- Law and its Impact on the Individual.
Course assessment
Most of the units are internally assessed through assignments that are set and marked by your teachers but one unit will be externally assessed by Edexcel.
Special features
You will participate in a number of visits to a range of public sector organisations. Some activities run by external agencies may exclude students on medical grounds.
Next step
Students gaining this award can progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services, or any other appropriate level 3 qualifications.
Student destinations
Most students on this course move onto level 3 courses such as the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services or into employment at trainee or apprentice level.
Entry requirements
5 GCSE grades E or above or equivalent, such as NVQ Level 1 plus a GCSE grade E or above.
Costs
Approximately £40 resources fee, £10 for a course polo shirt and £40 to cover costs of trips to local public organisations.
