Hairdressing practicalWhat will you do on this course?

This one year course is aimed at recently qualified Level 2 junior stylists. You will build and develop your skills in colouring, cutting, creative hair design and bridal styling.

Special features

Students will study in a commercial salon and gain valuable experience of salon life with opportunities to work with paying clients in our Hair Salons in a supported and supervised arrangement.

Trips and guest speakers are included in the programme and you will also have an opportunity to participate in our annual Industry Day and to attend talks and presentations from representatives from the hairdressing industry. New for 2016 - you will have the opportunity to take part in our French Exchange programme with Lycée Professionnel - Agen.

There will also be the opportunity to participate in internal and external competitions. You will have the opportunity to show off your skills during the annual End of Year Showcase.

How is the course assessed?

Each unit is assessed through graded observations of practical skills and on-line testing. Participation in internal and external arranged competitions is also a requirement. City & Guilds Exam Board.

University and career progression

You could pursue a career as a salon stylist, freelance hairdresser, cruise ship stylist, or work abroad or in the TV/film/media industry.

Former students have secured work in prestigious salons and gone on to be self employed.

Entry requirements

Successful completion of either NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing or the Level 2 Diploma in Womens Hairdressing is required before progressing to a Level 3 course. Level 2 gives you an excellent foundation for extending your skills and knowledge.

Stacey first studied the Level 2 Diploma in Womens Hairdressing before achieving the Level 3 Diploma in Womens Hairdressing. She is now continuing her studies at Strode on a Barbering course. Stacey was awarded 1st prize at the Strode Hair and Beauty Competition for her creation in the ‘Colours’ category.
