- 25/05/11 - Award Winning Celebrity Hairdresser Inspires Strode Students
Strode College hairdressing and barbering students were inspired by some cutting edge hair styling demonstrations this week when celebrity barber MK and Karen Christensen's creative director Katie Morse showed off their skills during the college's hairdressing 'Industry Day'.
MK is one of the UKs leading male stylists and is known for his unique approach to barbering and his artistic clipper work. He has appeared on TV and won many awards including Battle of the Barbers 2006 and 2008 and Barber of the year in 1998, 2006 and 2008.
Katie Morse, Creative Director with Karen Christensen, regularly mixes with top fashion stylists and is a great source of new ideas and techniques. She demonstrated some unusual and complex long hair work to the students at Strode where she formerly trained.
Gill Tincknell, Strode's Hairdressing Course Manager said: "We wanted to bring these high achieving and creative hairstylists to college to show our students what is happening at the high fashion end of the industry. We take students to some of the leading industry events, including the Clothes Show and the Salon International Show, but it was great to get industry to come to us. We want our students to aim high and this event definitely helped to raise their aspirations and inspire new ideas."
Hairdressing student Charlotte Payne who is also an apprentice at Karen Christensen said: "This was a great way of learning new and unusual techniques and ideas that we wouldn't normally be able to see locally. A lot of what we learnt is really only seen in salons in London, so we were very lucky to get this chance without having to pay loads of money and travel a long way. "
