- 09/03/11 - Playing Hairdressers for Real as Strode Nursery Children Visit Strode Hair Salon
For children at Strode College Day Nursery, playing hairdressers led to a fun trip to the Strode College Hair Salon, where they enjoyed getting some funky new hair styles from the hairdressing students.
Sarah Wheeler, Supervisor at the nursery said: "We noticed that the children were pretending to cut each others hair using plastic doctor's scissors, so we borrowed some hairdressing equipment from the College and set up a salon at the nursery. The children enjoyed styling the dolls heads and pretending to wash and cut each others hair, and they were talking about going to the hair dressers. With the help of the Strode salon we were able to make this happen, which was a fun way to develop the children's interests and experience. They had a great time and have been talking about it a lot."
Laura Griffiths, Receptionist at the Strode Hair Salon said: "Our students enjoyed working with the children. We used a lot of hair gel and ribbons, but no scissors. Some of our students have children at the nursery, so it was good for the children to see where their mums go to learn."
